KARALAGAN

"Karalagan", from the root word "kalag" means soul. This is our province's local version of trick or treat. Every year households in our barangay are cooking kakanin to celebrate Fiesta Calag or All Souls Day.

TRICK OR TREAT

I don't know where this tradition started, I just knew it when I already working here in Manila. In our province, we celebrate the so called Halloween by means of cooking "kakanin" like suman, kutsinta, etc.. we called it "Karalagan". However I was fascinated with the costumes they're wearing like fairies, snow white, tinker bell and the pumpkins. This year HRD asked all the employees to bring their kids in costumes as well as chocolates and candies. Since I don't have baby yet, candies na lang dinala ko.

I don't have pics of Ninja, I asked him before the trick or treat!!
*Boy putting his mask*
me: That's your costume? :)
Boy: Yeah, Ninja!!! I don't like scary costumes, cause God doesn't like evil ones.
me: oh true!!! (speechless)

Halloween Party is just a treat for all of us, but we must remember that the true essence of this season is remembering our departed loved ones. Take time to pray for them!!!

They will always remain in our hearts :)

HOPE

After three months, it's good to be back serving again the Kid's For Christ - Tatalon area. I've been serving this kids for almost 4 years now. We spend our Sunday morning from 9:00am to 12:00pm  teaching the kids how to read the bible, pray, sing, and dance. But for now, our service turn out to be every third Saturday of the month since we also give our Saturday morning for the Cornerstone Kids and Sunday would be our rest and family day. Sabi ko nga it's good to be back and sobrang namiss ko ang mga bata, namiss ko din kumanta at sumayaw, and praising God through action songs. Namiss din ako ng kids at ng mga nanay nila. katouch :) Every time na nasa Tatalon area ako I feel like a celebrity or a politician lol, kasi each corner may makakakilala sayo, they will shout your name "Ate Osang, kumusta?". awwww I feel loved :) Tapos ako naman pag may batang nahihiyang mag approach sayo, "Uy kumusta ka na, bakit di ka na umaatend? Tapos mag-smile lang sila! Haba na ng kwento! Anyways this month, the team prepared something for them.

It's the Kids who made this back drop

EPAL

This is the second time and our last visit of the year to my friend/ kuya/ partner in service (CLP)/ inaanak (kumpil)/ Kuya Ned at Sacred Heart Novitiate, Novaliches Metro Manila. Akalain mo at ninang ako ng Kuya ko na to! He is well know in our chapter na "very particular with time". So whenever we are serving the SFC and KFC pag late na kami, makikita mo siya nakatayo sa site/ venue na nakatingin sa relo tapos titingnan ka at titingin ule sa relo, lol. As I've said earlier this is our last visit for him this year, the next will be January 2013, and he is also the sharer of the month.

The first time we visit. I joined this pic at Nescafe Serendipic Contest and I won from one of the bloggers contest, unfortunately until now still haven't get my prize, anyways here's my prize, picture na lang ha (taken from the blog), masaya na ako!!!

THE GOSPEL: Mark 10:35-45

The Request of James and John

35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”
36 “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.
37 They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.”
38 “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”
39 “We can,” they answered.
Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, 40 but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.”
41 When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. 42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Kuya Ned's Sharing:

Everytime daw na nababasa niya ang gospel na to, he always reminded of the word epal, as in capital E.P.A.L in other words ma-Papel, pa-Bibo and always wants to be the center of attraction. As like what James and John's request to Jesus: "Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory." He also pointed out that nowadays there are people do have the KIA traits, which means Know It All. And as of this moment it is popularly said as IKR, I Know Right?!!! He also relate himself with James and John. He also told a version the famous Filipino story of  "Wala ka sa Lolo ko" and "Wala ka sa Lola ko". At the end of the sharing he stretched out that we must be EPAL in our own little way and good way. He said that we must be E. P. A. L.: Everytime Praise GOD, All the time Love GOD :)

France. Farrah, Gwen, me, Gemma, Damo, Kuya Ned, Kuya Joe

Damo is also a first year Jesuit aspirant like Kuya Ned, he is a Cambodian.

And of course after the mass, foods are flooding. hehehe, the foods are from fellow visitors! :)

HOUSEHOLD: AXE

THE STORY OF A WOODCUTTER
(credit to the author)

Once upon a time, a very strong woodcutter asked for a job in a timber merchant and he got it. The pay was really good and so was the work condition. For those reasons, the woodcutter was determined to do his best. His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he supposed to work.

The first day, the woodcutter brought 18 trees."Congratulations," the boss said. "Go on that way!"

Very motivated by the boss words, the wood cutter tried harder the next day, but he could only bring 15 trees. The third day he tried even harder, but he could only bring 10 trees. Day after day he was bringing less and less tress.

"I must be losing my strength", the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on. "When was the last time you sharpened your axe?" the boss asked. "Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees..."
--- end---

REFLECTION

When was the last time I sharpen my axe? When was the last time I stay in the house for a day? When was the last time I spend time with my Family? When was the last time I pamper myself? This are the questions came out on my mind as I read the story the wood cutter. I just realized that I'm too busy working and serving. I know I'm fulfilled and happy of what I'm doing, but I neglect the true important things, like our family, personal life, taking time to read inspirational books, and most of all our personal relationship with God. Sometimes we need to relax, meditate, think, and learn. We need to balance our life, we must learn how to prioritize things. God created 24 hours a day and seven days a week for us to use it wisely. If we don't take time to sharpen our axe, it will became dull, same as ourselves we will lose our effectiveness.

My dearest household friends, thank you for your stories and smile!!!

..... So always take time to sharpen your axe!!!
